Is equality the right comparison for today’s situation in the tech market?

Many firms are trying to make the tech market well balanced by making sure the main reason for hiring future employees is their degree and abilities, not their race or sex. But despite this fact, the statistics are not very positive. 47% of all employed adults in the U.S are women. And from these 47% only 25% are computing roles, according to data from the NCWIT the National Center for Women & Information Technology . Asian women make up only 5% of this percentage, while Black and Hispanic women accounted for 3% and 1%, respectively. These numbers aren’t that cheering as we thought right? Sadly the employment gap isn’t the only issue.

What does the paycheck of these women and men look like?

Are you ready to hear these statistics? According to a report from Dice, 38% of women expressed dissatisfaction with their compensation compared to 33% of men. The average salary of a woman in tech who reports being satisfied with their compensation is $93,591, while an average of $108,711 is paid for men. On the other hand, the average salary for women who report being dissatisfied with their compensation is $69,543, compared to $81,820 for men.

Powerful women who are ready to rock.

Sometimes standing up for yourself and going after your dream can be difficult. Especially if you are a woman working in a field that is filled with men. That’s why some brave independent women despite all the challenges were strong enough to start their own companies and businesses so they would be their own bosses. Unfortunately, only 5% of the tech start-ups are owned by women. The truth is women now hold more Bachelors and Graduate degrees than men but are less likely to get a job in tech. This is something that today’s society should be cured by now.

These are the gaps that should be eliminated to achieve equality. It is important to show the younger generation what is really the key to become successful and that the color of their skin or gender is not a disadvantage but a power they can hold onto.
